More resignations on the way at the CIA

Atrios points out that the purging has begun.

"The agency is being purged on instructions from the White House," said a former senior CIA official who maintains close ties to both the agency and to the White House. "Goss was given instructions ... to get rid of those soft leakers and liberal Democrats. The CIA is looked on by the White House as a hotbed of liberals and people who have been obstructing the president's agenda."
Yeah, they have been obstructing the president's agenda with... facts... and stuff.

I am of two minds on this... #1: Never screw with the CIA. It tends to end poorly for you. However, I also consider #2: Tenet is already gone... he was reputed to be a master at political gamesmanship. With him out of the way, the rest of the big folk at Langley are apparently content to give Goss the finger as they walk out the door rather than stick it to the administration and protect their neutral turf.

Either way, this isn't going to be good for America. You will either end up with a highly antagonistic situation between the CIA and the White House (or rather, one that is much worse than it already is), or a CIA that is pretty much a house organ for the administration (which is even scarier).

Or both.

Sleep tight children!
