What about Alberto?

The left side of the blogosphere has been shaking its head quite a bit lately about Alberto Gonzales...

And for good reason. Gonzales isn't as nakedly and obviously awful as Ashcroft and, quite frankly, he's latino (remember the accusations of racism over the Dems' block of Miguel Estrada?). Most bloggers I have read feel that the Dems need to save their ammo for possible Supreme Court nominations, especially since Gonzales is the first in line, and so they give him a relucant pass.

Why? Is there some sort of "Free nomination good with proof of re-election" coupon that I am not aware of? This is the guy they are nominating... and as the Nelson Report points out, shock over the torture memos wasn't exactly limited to the Democrats' side of the aisle. Dubya wants to "divide and conquer?" Why can't the Dems use it for the same purposes?

Oh, I forgot... it's because the Dems in the senate lost their cojones. Sen. Biden? Sen. Schumer? I'm lookin' at you...
At the very least, we need to use this issue to hammer the Republicans on it... not only to set the tone for the next four years (We ain't rollin' over!) but also to get the folks on the right side of the aisle on the record regarding this chump for the next time they have to defend their seat.

And BTW: Ashcroft isn't going quitely into the night. And while you are at it, consider this nightmare brought to you by Ogged via Ezra at Pandagon... sleep tight!

Update: Via Atrios, Uggabugga gives Justice a new seal
