Naw... there is no One Reason. But it is interesting, and could have been a bigger factor than anyone originally thought. It certainly squares well with one of my earliest political lessons: rightly or wrongly, people tend to vote by how their pocketbook is doing. (Thanks Mom)

(Of course, that little bit of wisdom has its limitations... as Thomas Frank points out, a lot of folks vote against their economic interests)
