Mary, Mary (Why ya buggin'?)
When Edwards brought up the lesbian daughter issue in the VP debate, and when Kerry busted it out in the third presidential debate, The Wife was a little upset with it all. "They just did it for political purposes... it was a low blow."
Of course, pointing out that someone has a lesbian daughter (or gay son) is only a low blow if you think that being homosexual is bad... did they do it for political purposes? Sure! Damn near everything during a presidential campaign is done for just that. But the purpose here was not to dig at the Cheney's with a low blow; obviously the Dems stick up for the rights of homosexuals and are fine with Cheney's lesbian daughter. Instead, it was done to expose a slice of hypocrisy to one of their traditional bases: the religious reicht, errr, right. The effect they hoped for was to sow a little discontent amoung the ranks and force Cheney and W to make some uncomfortable statements.
Well, it seems that strategy didn't have enough time to gestate.
We here at DHP will be waiting with bated breath for Lynne Cheney to storm out and denounce the statement as "tawdry" and claim that the Family Policy Network are "not good people"
