Real Health Care on the cheap

We have already seen some outsourcing in the medical world such as reading radiographs overseas and the like... things that are dependent on IT. But what about actual patients?

I have heard about this sort of thing before, at a conference on the impact of the election on health care at UNC's Law School (The medical school's Dean Roper was a participant). One of the guys said that a Swedish administrator said that they could buy up all the prostate surgeries in the USA, fly the patients out first class, put them up in the hopsital for several days if needed (nice hotels otherwise), and save money doing so over the cost of the procedure in the USA.

How?

Remember that the salary of your average urologist in Sweden is about $70k.

The best health care in the world is here in the USA, but it certainly isn't the most accessible. What sort of barriers are there for people to do these sorts of things? Insurance probably... I would imagine that the Swedes (or anyone else) probably don't want us mooching off their tax-subsidized system either. But global competition in the medical field is an interesting thought.
